Automated Leaf Truck Saves

Time and Money

These days there is a ‘how to’ available on-line for almost any-
thing…even a how to rake leaves. Beautiful and colorful as they
gracefully fall from trees for the next several months, raking and
bagging can take a toll on your time and back!
The town of Collierville, collects some 1,200 tons of loose
leaves annually and recently purchased a brand new automated
leaf truck that will save your back from hoisting that leaf rake
and bagging them up. The public services department’s new truck
will actually vacuum large piles of leaves in minutes with only
one individual operator, compared to the equipment they were
using last year that required up to three crew members. This rig
can be operated by a single driver, operating a “joy stick” type
controller from inside the truck cab.
The fleet services division mounted the new bed and vacuum
control mechanisms on the chassis of one of the town’s existing
recycle collection trucks, which saved approximately $100,000
versus buying a completely new unit. The new leaf collection
truck will greatly improve the efficiency of town crews because
it can vacuum a larger capacity of leaves in less time than the old
unit and will allow crews to complete routes faster. If you have a
small volume of leaves, you still can just bag them up and leave at
the curb for prompt pick-up. CMI EquIpMEnt
