TCAPWA EVENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS By John Fox
West Branch Meets in Collierville
The TCAPWA’s West Branch held its quarterly meeting on May 5 at
the Collierville Public Service Complex in Collierville. In cooperation
with the Town of Collierville and sponsored by River City Hydraulics
and Tri-State Truck Center, the TCAPWA branch meeting was a great
success with over 40 members and guests in attendance. Several up-
coming TCAPWA activities were discussed that included upcoming
Tennessee Public Works Institute courses and the upcoming TCAP-
WA/SWANA Conference scheduled for November 8-10 in Memphis.
The speakers for this quarter’s meeting were Andy Sharp from
Heil Environmental and Patrick Tarpley from Tri-State Truck Cen-
ter who presented information on fleet maintenance best practices,
preventative maintenance, and the maintenance of diesel exhaust
treatment systems.
During the first presentation, Sharp discussed various preventative
maintenance techniques and talked about the importance of per-
forming timely scheduled maintenance to avoid costly breakdowns
and unscheduled repairs. During the second presentation, Tarpley
discussed how to avoid unnecessary repairs that can often run as
high as several thousand dollars by performing the regularly required
maintenance of diesel exhaust treatment systems. During the meet-
ing, two restaurant gift cards provided by Eddie Yaun from Stringfel-
low Equipment were raffled off during the time between speakers.
Following the presentations, attendees were provided a Southern
fish fry sponsored by Jamie McCoy from River City Hydraulics and
Todd Garley from Tri-State Truck Center. During the lunch, a Yeti
cooler provided by River City Hydraulics was raffled off and McCoy
briefly talked about the CNG Mack truck with Heil Odyssey Auto-
mated Front Loader and Mack truck with Galbreath hook lift that
were on display at the meeting. Following the lunch, attendees were
given a tour of Collierville’s Fleet Maintenance facility and enjoyed
time to network and inspect the trucks and equipment from River
City Hydraulics and Tri State Truck Center.
