CHATTANOOGA By Alex Nipper
Public Works Through the Lens
“I am 29 years old and currently entering my senior year at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga pursuing a Bachelor of
Fine Arts in Photography and Media Arts, an interdisciplinary program that allows me to research and investigate the use of many
different mediums of art such as photography, video, audio, and other forms of digital media. I was brought into Public Works through
an internship opportunity that the City of Chattanooga’s Office of Multicultural Affairs offers in the spring of 2017 to take photos and
document various projects, events, and everyday processes that the people of Public Works do on a daily basis. I was drawn to this
internship due to my past experience working in construction and in factories, as well as having a large curiosity of the city’s infrastructure
and processes behind-the-scenes that help keep the city flowing without a hitch. I have been very pleased with this opportunity to work
with everyone here at Public Works; it has been a very humbling experience and is something I would highly recommend to any other
student looking for the same opportunity.” – Photos by Alex Nipper, City of Chattanooga Public Works Intern
