Save the date Water for People
2017 TCAPWA/SWANA The Chapter has participated in many outreach programs
Annual Joint Conference and the fundraising project for Water for People is an
example of Service to Community. Water For People raised
November 7-9, 2017 $1,041 through their t-shirt sales, silent auction, live auction
Knoxville, TN of a Peyton Manning signed jersey and the 50/50 give-a-way.
Holiday Inn This money will be used to fund projects in Guatemala to
provide clean water and improve sanitation.

Host Branch Reception
On Thursday evening, eight past presidents were recognized at a reception. Present
were: (back row) Bill Brock, Bo Mills, Mark Miller, Ronnie Hammonds, Ken Donaldson, and Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland welcomed the attendees
(front row) Rodney Keeton, John Calvert and Calvin Clifton. and exhibitors to Memphis. Awards were presented to
the rodeo winners (see page 10). Following the awards,
8 TPW January/February 2017 everyone was invited to join the Young Professionals on a
Pub Crawl on Beale Street.
Technical Sessions
It was standing room only in several technical sessions!
With eight TCAPWA sessions, four of which had an
engineering focus, and four SWANA sessions, the range of
topics offered a lot of variety for attendees and many took
advantage of the continuing education credits available.
Awards Luncheon
John Anderson, Conference Chairman, hosted the
Awards Luncheon where he expressed his gratitude to all of
the attendees, sponsors and exhibitors for making this year’s
Conference such a success.
The program continued with Rodney Keeton, TCAPWA
President, announcing the 2016 TCAPWA Scholarship
recipients: Phillip Jones, Jr., and Bonnie M. Dodson.
Next, Ryan McReynolds, Vice President and Awards
Chairman, Keeton, 2016 President, and Manny Belen,
President Elect, presented the 2016 TCAPWA Annual
Awards (see the article on page 14).
YP Events
The Young Professionals organized a cornhole
tournament during the Equipment Rodeo and gave away
chances to win a YETI cooler in exchange for donations
to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. FORCE America,
Inc., donated the YETI cooler to help with the fundraiser
and Britt Elmore and Lauran Canacaris presented a check of
$1,050 to a representative from St. Jude Hospital who made
a short presentation.
The YPs also spearheaded a Pub Crawl on Beale Street,
which was sponsored by LDA Engineering, with 15 people
in attendance. The majority of the group ended up at Aldo’s
Pizza Pies restaurant for a nice long dinner that was the
perfect opportunity for networking and talking about
various aspects of the day-to-day job of Public Works.

The wrap up at Silky O’Sullivans provided statewide
networking and socializing! A high note to conclude the
Conference!
