Union City Relies on Cat® Machines for Maintenance and Repair Jobs
A Cat D5K2 dozer with grade control is the latest addition to the Union City Public Works Department’s fleet, which
already includes two Cat 420F backhoe loaders and a 420E backhoe loader. The department maintains 85 miles of
pavement and over 640 miles of water line in the city and the surrounding parts of Obion County.
Bought to replace an old machine, the D5K2 is used for grading, levee work,
and many other jobs, according to Public Works Director Steve Ladd. “Our
Cat machines are used in all kinds of repairs and maintenance projects,” he
comments. The size of the D5K2, and the grade control, were big factors in
buying it. A lot of the work involves sewer access roads and large ditches.
And we do a good deal of levee maintenance.”
Adds Water and Sewer Foreman Bud Davidson, “The 4-in-1 buckets on our
420s are a big help to us. We use the backhoe loaders for picking up trash and
leaves and street clean-up. We can grade, and truck loading is easier.
“Our Cat machines are dependable, and we get good service and good parts
availability.”
