New Cat® Machines Hard
at Work in Lawrenceburg

The City of Lawrenceburg Public Works Department stays busy with a
full schedule of paving, repairs, and maintenance work. Public Works
Director Jerry Smith reports, “We pave the roads, repair and replace
sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, and do all stormwater drainage work.”
Three new Cat machines have joined the department’s fleet in recent
months – a 420F2 backhoe loader, a CB24B smooth drum vibratory
compactor, and an AP500F paver. Smith says, “The AP500F (pictured above right) replaced an old worn-out machine
from another manufacturer. The Cat machine’s size and the versatility of its options played a large role in making it
the right paver for our needs. The 420F is used nearly every day for stormwater work around the city.”
Smith says his department’s most challenging undertaking was the 10-year Lawrenceburg Flood Control Project.
The extensive project, largely in response to flooding that inundated the town in 1998, dug a new ditch through the
heart of the city, and included 2,100 feet of culvert boxes.
