Collierville

This year the Town of Collierville’s Public Service Department held
its 18th annual Public Works Week celebration on Wednesday May
24. Included among the attendees of this year’s celebration were the
Department’s employees, Town Administration, Planning and Engi-
neering Department, Finance Department, members of the Board of
Alderman, and the Mayor.

When Public Services Director Bill Kilp came to work for the Town
of Collierville in 1999, he initiated an annual Public Works Equipment
Rodeo for the employees of the Public Services Department. The rodeo
is a part of National Public Works Week, and it gives Public Works em-
ployees a chance to demonstrate the very specific equipment operating
skills they use every day in making Collierville a livable community.
Kilp said that in addition to serving as an acknowledgement and ap-
preciation of all that Public Services employees do, the day’s activities
allow employees from the different divisions in the department to
exchange information about job duties and best practices.

Employees from the Public Service Department and guests enjoyed
a wide variety of activities including an Equipment Rodeo giving
employees and guests the opportunity to compete in the operation of
several pieces of equipment, a basketball tournament, a golf putting
competition and a Horse Shoe Tournament, a favorite of the Depart-
ment’s employees.

In addition to the various activities, employees and guests also
enjoyed a luncheon provided by the Public Service Department and
served by the Public Service Department Administrative staff. At the
end of the day all who attended had a fun-filled afternoon celebrating
a day dedicated to the men and women who work throughout the year
to make our community the great place it is to live.

The Collierville Public Services Department is comprised of eight
divisions totaling 118 full-time employees and one part-time em-
ployee. These employees possess special skills and experience to meet
the growing infrastructure needs of Collierville. Collierville Public
Services is made up of the following divisions: Sanitation, Streets
and Drainage, Fleet Services, Water Treatment, Water Distribution,
Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection and Public Services
Administration.
