“Compact but powerful.”

The West Tennessee River Basin Authority (WTRBA) provides an important service, helping to preserve the natural
flow of West Tennessee’s streams and rivers through environmentally sensitive stream maintenance. Located in
Humboldt, the WTRBA serves a 20-county area between the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers.
Engineer David Blackwood points out that much of the agency’s work is done in wooded areas with limited access,
and in fact much of the maintenance work must be done with amphibious excavators mounted on steel pontoons.
Also part of their equipment fleet are a Cat® D4K2 dozer, 308E2 CR compact excavator, and 420F backhoe loader.
“The machines we use have to be compact but powerful - the right size to be able to access the work site and
perform in wooded, often muddy conditions,” Blackwood states. “We’ll even use our Cat D4K2 along the banks,
pulling out debris with a winch.”
