PUbLiC Works Week by Ronnie Hammonds

Kingsport Public Works Department celebrated National Public Works Week with its
third annual Public Works Day celebration held in downtown Kingsport. Te public and
other city departments were invited to help celebrate this important day.
Operators (not supervisors, but day to day operation personnel) manned the equipment
and displays to explain what they did and how the equipment was used.
Several pieces of equipment were set up to allow people (especially children) to sit in the
operator’s seat and get a “feel” for that piece of equipment.
A new feature this year was a Safety Fashion Show that had the theme Safety in the
Works-Today for Tomorrow. Public Works Director, Ryan McReynolds, and each division-
al manager dressed in the appropriate safety attire for a function in their division.
“We can use Public Works Week to help showcase our employees and let our communi-
ties know about the GREAT people doing the day-to-day jobs that make our communities
great places to live,” said Ronnie Hammonds, Kingsport Street and Sanitation Director. Kids were allowed to sit on the equipment. All city
departments were invited to participate.

Niki Ensor, Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager was the hit of the Safety
fashion Show. She dressed out in full Level 4 Arc flash Protection.
