TCAPWA EVENTS AND HIGHLIGHTS By John Fox

West Branch Meets in Collierville

The TCAPWA’s West Branch held a meeting on February 19 at the Collier-
ville Public Service Department’s facility in Collierville. In cooperation with the
Town of Collierville and SANSOM Equipment, the branch meeting was a great
success.

Despite the winter ice storm earlier in the week, approximately 30 members
and guests attended the meeting sponsored by the SANSOM Equipment Com-
pany. West Branch Director John Fox discussed several West Branch goals for
the upcoming year and Bo Mills, Region III Director for the APWA updated the
Branch on national news.

Josh Stringer and Jason Turbville from SANSOM Equipment Company were
the guest speakers for the meeting. The main topic of discussion for the meeting
was reducing capital expenditures for vehicles and equipment purchases. Dur-
ing the presentation various cost reduction methods were discussed, including:
savings through refurbishing existing equipment, utilizing lease and buyback
programs, the advantages of using national cooperative contract programs, and
the importance of proper operator training to extend the useful service life of
equipment and vehicles.

SANSOM Equipment Company sponsored the meeting lunch and raffled off
door prizes that were given away at the conclusion of the meeting.
