1916 GAYOSO PUMPING STATION
Tuesday, November 8 at 1 p.m.
When built in 1916, the Gayoso Pumping Station had a total
pumping capacity of 540,000 gallons per minute. This was
accomplished with four horizontal centrifugal 72" pumps
driven by four 750 Horsepower Wound Rotor Induction
motors. The machinery was furnished and installed for an
approximate cost of $75,000.
In 2015, the Gayoso Pump Station was engaged in response
to a record rain event. Two of the four motors failed due to
the age of the motors’ windings.
Bids were accepted to rewind all four of the 750 HP motors.
Each motor assembly, which weighs 48,000 lbs., was
removed and transported to Birmingham for rewinding.
The Pumping Station, after renovation, was in service
again by early 2016.
