City of Memphis
The City of Memphis-Public Works Division
celebrated National Public Works Week (May
15-21) with a Kick-off at City Hall (Memphis,
TN). One of many highlights included a special
Proclamation Presentation to Public Works
Director, Robert Knecht. Attendees enjoyed
music, raffles, food trucks and displays show-
casing programs and services offered throughout
the division. Many were thrilled to network
with employees and take pictures with a “Selfie
Frame” during the festivities. The “Grizz Girls,”
Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering
(MASE) and Memphis Grizzlies Preparatory
Charter School students also joined the fun.
Many stood in line to climb on and explore
heavy equipment for the first time. Students
particularly enjoyed learning the function of
each piece displayed at the event. The Pro-Patch
Truck, Closed Circuit TV Van, Solid Waste
Packer, Front End Loader, Picker & Street
Sweepers were on site, just to name a few. Event
goers enjoyed some of the best food from local
food truck vendors such as Mr. Fraziers Fish
Fry, the world renowned Central Barbeque and
Waffle Mania.
Participants included: Neighborhood Im-
provement (Grounds Services, Code Enforce-
ment, and Memphis City Beautiful Commis-
sion), Environmental Engineering (Storm Water,
Environmental Maintenance and Inspections
and T. E. Maxon Waste Water Treatment Plant),
Maintenance (Street Maintenance and Sweeper
Department), Solid Waste Management (Recy-
cling Department, Scott Street, Farrisview Instal-
lation and Bellevue Midtown Installation).
The excitement continued throughout the divi-
sion with celebratory departmental events during
National Public Works Week. This proved to be a
great opportunity to honor employees for provid-
ing service excellence throughout the year.
