Lower East Branch Meets in Chattanooga ByJenniferNorton
Chattanooga’s First Community Greenway
Noel Durant, Chattanooga Program Director for
the Trust for Public Land, and Ben Nemec, Project
Engineer for Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Can-
non, Inc., presented a summary on the develop-
ment of the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway
on June 22 at the Lower East Branch Meeting held
at Outdoor Chattanooga in Chattanooga’s Coolidge
Park. BWSC sponsored the event.
The presentation detailed the history of a Chatta-
nooga community greenway, including the logistics
of land acquisition, engineering challenges of con-
structing stream-side greenway corridors, the most
recent completion of the one mile greenway connec-
tion to the Tennessee Riverwalk, the concept of the
